Gold Coast Game Fish Club Point Scoring System
The point scoring system at Gold Coast Game Fish Club is integral to our tournaments and annual competitions. It provides a transparent and fair method for recognising angler achievements. This system encourages skill and expertise in game fishing and emphasises the importance of sustainable fishing practices.
The Gold Coast Game Fish Club’s point-scoring system is designed to promote competitive spirit, skill development, and conservation awareness among our members. Below is detailed information on how points are allocated for various categories within our tournaments and annual competitions.

Notes:
- Anglers can only claim five (5) of a particular other species A or B in any one day.
- Other species A include Spanish mackerel, Wahoo, mahi mahi, Mackerel Tuna, cobia, Giant Trevally, Amberjack, and Samson fish.
- Other species B include all other species as per the current GFAA handbook.

The foundational formula for calculating capture points is based on the fish’s weight squared (Weight x Weight), multiplied by the Line Class Factor. For each fish species, we apply this fundamental calculation but with specific adjustments to align with the unique attributes and challenges associated with capturing different types of game fish:
- Billfish: Weight x Weight x Factor
- Broadbill: Weight x Weight x Factor + 2000
- Sharks: Weight x Weight x Factor x 0.5
- Tuna: Weight x Weight x Factor x 5
- Other Species: Weight x Weight x Factor x 2.5
Where fish are to be weighed, a 10% weight allowance will be added if they are gutted. For weighed fish to be eligible for State or National GFAA records or to score club points, they must exceed the weight of the line class being claimed. For sharks and rays, this minimum weight is double the line class claimed. This is not the case for World Records.
Teams are to provide equal opportunity and rod time to all anglers on board competing for club points in the annual club competition. The Committee reserves the right to use its discretion to enforce this rule if necessary.
Fishing Boundaries
Our boundaries are divided into two distinct areas: local waters and coastal waters. For local waters, the northern boundary is 5 NM north of Point Lookout (27º20S), and the southern boundary is Hastings Point (28º22S). All waters in between are local waters. Hook-up must occur within the boundaries. Coastal waters encompass any other Australian coastal water.
Charter Boats
Club charter boats may only compete in the general point score whilst not chartered.
Final Decision
The GCGFC Committee reserves the right to amend these rules from time to time if necessary, and its decisions are final.
